Family
Systems Therapy
My orientation to treatment is primarily a combination of what is called
Family Systems, Family of Origin Therapy, and Object Relations
Therapy. The integration of these approaches means that I pay attention both to how individuals are structured internally, as well as to the interactive systems within which they live and from which they came. By looking at these different levels we can explore the difficulties that bring you to therapy and find some ways to help you resolve those difficulties and to have a more productive and rewarding life. I see my role to be that of a "coach," one who challenges old behaviors and ideas, suggests new possibilities of behavior, and provides an environment in which risks can be more safely taken.
Part of what makes therapy effective has to do with how you and I relate to each other. It is important that you let me know if anything about our relationship seems uncomfortable or uneasy. Especially in the early stages of our relationship, I will be checking in with you to see if we are a good fit; if not, we may need to explore why this is so or perhaps to find someone who might better serve your needs. What is important is that your needs are met. You have the right to choose a compatible therapist.
Psychotherapy for those on a Spiritual Path
Psychotherapy can be a wonderful complement to the spiritual journey. Psychotherapy works to release mental and emotional blocks which lie between your current experience and your own true nature. Utilizing developmental and family of origin principles, as well as age-old spiritual practices including meditation and guided imagery, patients can understand and let go of obstacles from the past which limit their spiritual experience.
