Corporate Ski Week uses skiing as a real-time lab in which learning to ski (and learning
to ski better) is used as a tool to challenge business executives to do better
on and off the slopes. More
crucial to the program's design is its nature to teach executives how to incorporate
challenge, improvement, and efficiency into their working roles.
Most skiers always think
of progressing to a more difficult run or of mastering a new turn. After all, would it not
be boring to stay on one beginner run after mastering it? Yet this simple application on
the ski slope is not always applied to everyday life. It is the specific and promising
goal of the Corporate Ski Week program to show executives that this is just as true in the
workplace. Without challenge in our work, we die an intellectual death.
The Corporate Ski Week program approaches this process with three goals: heighten
individual awareness, heighten individual imagination, and heighten effective
communication.
Heightened awareness on the slopes is an act of engaging all the senses, being sensitized
to visual cues, body positions and breathing. This training translates in the workplace
into an acute attention. an ability to take in all presented information and its
significance.
Heightened imagination is engaged in skiing because unpredictability is an integral part
of the sport. Engaging the unknown is the constant challenge. Executives transfer this
skill to business by focusing their imaginations to see new opportunities for creative
outcomes and innovative solutions.
Heightened communication in skiing is a metaphor for dealing with risk. Skiing involves
assessing risk and manage it. In business, one of the predominant issues in the
discussion of new ideas and development is the elimination of the consequences of risk.
The Corporate Ski Week program involves all three of these criteria in one unique,
intensive environment. As professional skiers and business analysts, we know that without
the struggle to improve, improvement is impossible. We feel that skiing best emphasizes that point.
It's a natural platform for revivifying executives.
Both on and off the slopes, external conditions and technical ability rarely prevent
one from performing at their best. Rather, self-imposed barriers and inner resources
ultimately determine performance. Corporate Ski Weeks develops the skills needed to
overcome these barriers and empowers individuals and teams to achieve higher performance.
For individuals this means enhanced confidence, creativity, and commitment; for teams,
enhanced communication, trust, and teamwork. These same fundamentals developed on the
slopes lead to peak performance back in the office, the court room, the operating room,
the golf course, at home - or anywhere else, for that matter.
