Follow the sun with us this Fall to the lovely resort of Portillo, Chile, nestled in the center of the famous, awe-inspiring Chilean Andes ski region. You’re invited to join our yearly group of skiers, snowboarders and winter sightseeing enthusiasts venturing south to explore one of South America's premier ski resorts since 1949. Portillo is legendary for its dry powder snow. While the lower slopes are intermediate, there are steep couloirs above, reached by a five person platter lift. The cliff known as Kilometro was the site of three world speed skiing records. You find the uncrowded 2,487 vertical feet of slopes provide more than enough yes"> skiable terrain for days of high altitude fun. Portillo is the summer home of many great ski teams including the U.S. team, Canadian, Swiss, German and of course the Austrians. Many times the team members are available and mingle with the guests and staff on a regular basis.
The Hotel Portillo captures the whimsical spirit of one of the world's greatest ski lodges. Located 9,448 ft., this enormous hotel is perched above an exquisite lake in a picture perfect setting with eclectic mix of elements that provide all you would want in a world-class hotel. It is often called a “cruise ship in the mountains”. Nobody gets up very early, meals are social events, and dinner his late. There are no lift lines or many people skiing up the powder. Life is leisurely and lends itself to making friends. Snow making and grooming machines have replaced the Chilean mountain troops, now. The are five chairlifts, but the unique Va et Vient lifts design by Jean Pomagalski permit access to high avalanche chutes across the Roca Jack and the Condor slopes challenging experts and offering access to some great opens slope powder skiing and myriad of steep chutes.
Having a good time is the natural thing to do in Portillo. Infectious good spirits and a relaxed and happy mood are proof enough that a hard day’s skiing has an invigorating affect when night falls! Whatever your taste in “apres-ski”, the right setting awaits you in a pub or mountain lodge, café or cellar bar, or the disco.
