SWISS SKI ADVENTURE

Zermatt, Switzerland

 

Mile-high Zermatt, an idyllic mountain village at the foot of the Matterhorn, has developed into one of the world's most famous ski resorts.  Favored for its southern exposure, sheltered from the wind and generously endowed with snow, Zermatt enjoys some of the most spectacular skiing in the Alps.  The scope and variety of skiing is tremendous with a network of lifts serving trails that rise over 12,000 feet.  Three main ski areas offer wide-open slopes for beginners while the more advanced skiers enjoy the challenge of the internationally known Tiefbach, Aeroleid, or Momatt.  You can even ski over the Theodulpass to Cervina, Italy, for lunch.

The Klein Matterhorn lift, ascending to 12,533 feet, the highest aerial cable car in the Alps, has opened up new glacier ski runs, which give Zermatt one of a longest ski seasons in Europe.  A new 150 passenger cable car to the Rothhorn began running in December 1996.  Now you can ski Zermatt, Cervina, and Valtournenche Italy, with one ski pass.  Skiers from all over the world rendezvous for lunch at the mountains’ numerous sun-decked restaurants.  In addition, a variety of trails is available for cross-country and touring skiers.

 

The Astoria Hotel will be our home for the week.  This luxurious four star hotel, located in the center of the resort, offers a restaurant, bar, live music, pool, sauna, steam bath, whirlpool, fitness room, and much more including excellent cuisine.
